Contact

Should you have a question concerning a price contact our Customer Service Department.

Have you ever wondered about an Amazon price match? I know I have. Many of the largest retailers around will price match other retailers. Walmart is known for this. BestBuy started doing it with great success (They often price match against Amazon). I have been in there numerous times looking for something and would pull up prices on Amazon.com and they would price match it with no hesitation. Since Amazon is the world’s largest online retailer, I figured there would have to be a way to get them to price match products. Low and behold, there is, but it’s not their official policy.

Amazon officially does not have a price matching policy, in fact they say they don’t do it. I have used the method described below successfully a few times, but it doesn’t always work. Since I am known for my Amazon knowledge, I figured I would show you how you can ask for an Amazon price match. I specifically left this tip out of my 5 little known ways to save at Amazon.com because I figured it would be a good post to describe how to actually do it.

A few weeks ago, I wrote about just asking for discounts. You can’t get one until you ask for one. Come to find out, that is exactly how you ask Amazon for a price match. They specifically state they can’t price match on every request, but they try their best. With their incredible buying power, I figure you can probably get them to do it. Just as a note, like many retailers, they will most likely not price match on products from unknown stores. There are thousands of online retailers who sell what Amazon does. This is why they give the disclaimer they can’t price match every request.

Amazon Price Match – How to Ask For One

Alright, I know you are here to learn how to get the elusive Amazon price match, so I am going to show you. I used this method to score a little cheaper deal on my Moto G LTE. The price on Amazon at the time was $219.99, but I found it at another store (don’t remember where) for only $199.99. Well, after doing some digging, I wanted to know if Amazon would match that price. Here is how you can ask them.

When you are on an Amazon product page, scroll down to the product details section. For example, head over to the Moto G LTE page on Amazon. The product details section is about a third of the way down the page. It is after technical details.

Intro matchmaking price

When you get there, you will see information like product dimensions, shipping weight, average customer review, and Amazon best sellers rank. You also see a little inconspicuous link that says this:

Would you like to tell us about a lower price?

Did you see the bold part there? Amazon specifically allows you to tell them about a lower price. This is where you ask Amazon to price match. Below is an image of what the product details section looks like and the highlighted link you need to click to get Amazon’s price match form.

Kristi Price Matchmaking

Once you click that link, it will pop up an information box like the one below. The first step is to tell Amazon if you found the new lower price at a store or online. I am not sure if this makes a difference, but I bet it would be easier for them to price match if the store was online or had an online price. This is just a guess and I have no proof. For myself, I clicked the Website (online) radio button.

Now, here is the second step in asking Amazon to price match. Once you click the radio button, it will come up with an appropriate form for you to fill in. Since I did website, below is what it will look like. You will need the following information in order submit the Amazon price match form.

[checklist]

  • Website URL – Make sure to put in the URL where the product is located, not just the main URL.
  • Price – This is a big one. Don’t just make up a price either. Amazon will look at this information.
  • Shipping Cost – If you can find how much it costs to ship, put it in there. Since Amazon does have great shipping rates (free if you have Amazon Prime), they do calculate this in the overall price to match.
  • Date of Price – This is when you saw the lower price you want Amazon to match. I would assume the closer to the submission date the better. I doubt they will match any prices from a few months ago.

[/checklist]

When you are done filling out the form, you just hit the “Submit Feedback” button and it goes off into Amazon land. Remember, there is no guarantee they will match the price you see. Amazon loves to be competitive, especially with other large retailers, so it can’t hurt to ask. If they will match the price, you have to wait to see if they lower it on the page. That means you will need to check it over the next few days to see if they did indeed lower the price.

You Ask and You Might Receive the Amazon Price Match

I have tried this price match submission on Amazon.com a few times since I found out about it. I am hovering around a 60% rate of match. Now, that might irritate you if you are an avid price match shopper. Just remember that Amazon has a lot of products, millions of them. They can’t compete on all of them. If another retailer has too many, they drop the price to start liquidating them. Amazon is probably not going to follow suite. If there is a one-time sale, you probably won’t get the price match. Either way, if you want an Amazon price match, you better just ask for it. Filling in the submission form only takes a minute or less. If you don’t ask, you can’t receive. That is a fact of life.

Anyway, I hope you found this useful and I hope you get to use it. Since the holidays are coming up quick, you might be able to get some sweet deals on Amazon and if you are a prime member, then you can get the items quick.

What do you think about Amazon price match? Have you used it before? Would ask them to price match with no guarantee and their official policy about not matching prices?
